Improving Standards for Legionella Risk Assessments

Last month BSI released its updated “British Standard BS 8580-1:2019 Water quality, risk assessments for Legionella control – Code of practice”. A substantial revision to the 2010 British Standard providing further guidelines for assessing water quality and the risk of Legionnaires’ disease.

With a notable increase in the annual number of cases of Legionnaires’ disease reported in England and Wales – provisional Public Health England (PHE) figures show, subject to clarification over 530 cases reported in 2018, compared to approx. 450 in 2017 and approx. 360 in 2016 it is imperative that these standards are continually evaluated.
