COVID-19 Implications for Water Safety

In these unprecedented and turbulent times, we as a nation are faced with, many businesses are looking at the impact COVID-19 will have on the business market. How will COVID-19 affect revenue? But also how will it affect the physical work that businesses do? Business models might have to shift to adapt to the changing landscape.

Legionella Control Association Guidelines

We were encouraged by the Legionella Control Association’s update on the implications which will arise if some businesses have to shut down which includes their associated water systems.

Water Stagnation

Business or premise closure comes with risk, therefore it is important that business owners, facilities managers or those in charge are aware of the stages they must follow to ensure water is safe for human consumption.

There are serious implications that arise from water stagnation due to closed premises and these implications need to be carefully managed to avoid other life-threatening consequences such as Legionnaires’ disease.

Legionella Control Association Advice for Members

Here is the general advice that the Legionella Control Association has released for its members. Water Hygiene Services is a member of the Legionella Control Association.

General Advice for Members

A basic risk template can be created to monitor members of staff who may be at higher risk of infection or of greater impact should the virus take hold. This can be used to inform clients of your company’s current status and help track any potential circumstances that may arise.

Key points to consider may be:

• Confirmation that staff you will routinely come into contact with have not displayed any symptoms of COVID-19

• We can confirm that staff you will routinely come into contact with have not recently travelled to a country deemed as high risk by the UK Government.

• We can confirm that that staff you will routinely come into contact with have not, so far as we have been made aware, had any contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

Our suggestion would be to confirm this with your clients and ask if they can provide the same type of assurances.
